Carbon markets offer a unique opportunity for poor, rural communities to generate revenues based on the climate change benefits of their activities.

CarbonPlus supports the efforts of EcoLogic by providing local communities with capacity building and technical assistance to generate carbon market revenues for conservation and sustainable development activities that also mitigate climate change. CarbonPlus works in particular on reforestation (A/R) and avoided deforestation (REDD) projects that are aligned with EcoLogic's mission and that have sufficient scale to generate carbon credit revenues at a multiple of transaction costs.

Our core advisory services are:

  • capacity-building training;
  • technical assistance on project document preparation including supporting documents; and
  • validation and verification audit preparation.

When requested, we also may provide

  • fund-raising assistance for project development and implementation from donors or investors; and also
  • marketing assistance of carbon credits including preparation of marketing documents, identification of buyers, assistance with negotiation and sales, and monitoring contract compliance.

PROVEN ON-THE-GROUND EXPERTISE: EcoLogic staff completed Project Design Documents (PDD) and led validation audit of nearly 300 HA Bosques Pico Bonito native species reforestation project in Honduras, the first forest carbon project in the region prepared to achieve Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) validation.

GEOGRAPHIC FOCUS: EcoLogic has over 16 years of experience working with communities in Mexico and Central America and builds upon its expertise by continuing its focus in this region.

MISSION ORIENTATION: Forest carbon advisory services can be longest sustained and most efficiently managed by charging a fee for professional services to cover costs. These fees also enable EcoLogic to work without conflict of interest as the organization will not have a stake in carbon credits. But unlike a for-profit business, EcoLogic can reduce its fees below market rate by relying on charitable donor support for unique projects which align closely with EcoLogic's mission to alleviate rural poverty and to conserve biodiversity.
