The American crocodile inhabits wetlands and coastal areas on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans throughout Central and South America and also in southeastern Florida and the Caribbean Islands. The American crocodiles numbers have diminished and it is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, overharvesting of the fish it feeds on, illegal hunting, and accidental encounters with fishing nets, cars and boats.
