The stream side rainfrog is a semi-aquatic frog endemic to the humid, montane forest streams in the western and central cordilleras of Panama. This large and spotted brown frog is often found near fast moving streams and waterfalls. Considered an endangered species because of habitat loss due to deforestation, the stream side rainfrog’s habitat in Panama is severely fragmented. It is also believed that the chytrid fungal disease, a fungal infection which has a high mortality rate and targets amphibians, is further reducing the population of this species and frog species throughout Central America.
