The Van Gelder’s bat inhabits a variety of forested habitats in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and parts of Mexico. The Van Gelder’s bat is listed as “near threatened” on the IUCN Red List because it is dependent on a fragile habitat that continues to decline as a result of deforestation related to increased human population density and agricultural activity.
