Your Charitable Bequest

Your charitable bequest is the most important type of gift for building EcoLogic’s future. When received, your bequest, unless otherwise designated, will be recorded as an unrestricted gift that will strengthen the organization for future generations.

There are three types of bequests for you to consider. Residual bequests are often made after making specific bequests to relatives, friends, and charities. Whatever remains after specific bequests (the residuary) can be given in percentage to charity and others.

When you place a specific or residual / percentage bequest in your will or living trust, please notify EcoLogic. If you are considering a restriction, we encourage you to use the sample text below to ensure that your wishes are met.

Specific:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to EcoLogic Development Fund, a nonprofit corporation incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, tax ID 25-1704582, with mailing address  P.O. Box 381571, Cambridge, MA 02238, [the sum of $______ /______ shares of stock in _____Company /my real property commonly known as _________ ] to be used as its Board of Directors deems advisable for the benefit of EcoLogic's mission and work abroad.”

Residual / Percentage:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to EcoLogic Development Fund, a nonprofit corporation incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, tax ID 25-1704582, with mailing address  P.O. Box 381571, Cambridge, MA 02238, [the residue of my estate /__% of my estate] to be used as its Board of Directors deems advisable for the benefit of EcoLogic's mission and work abroad.”

Contingent:

A contingent bequest enables you to name EcoLogic Development Fund as an alternate beneficiary of all or of a portion of your estate, which means EcoLogic will receive the bequest only if your primary beneficiary or beneficiaries do not survive you.

“If ________ is not living at the time of my death, I give to EcoLogic Development Fund, a nonprofit corporation incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, tax ID 25-1704582, with mailing address  P.O. Box 381571, Cambridge, MA 02238, [the sum of $________/ the residue of my estate/ ______% of the residue of my estate] to be used as its Board of Directors deems advisable for the benefit of EcoLogic's mission and work abroad."

You can designate EcoLogic as a beneficiary of a part or all of your retirement plan assets or insurance policies by completing a form from your account provider, which is separate from your will or trust. Not only is it an easy way to give, but it is also flexible — you can review and adjust your beneficiary designations at any time.

As a nonprofit organization, we are tax-exempt, and we will receive the full amount of what you designate to us from your plan.

Next Steps:

  1. Request a beneficiary designation form from the administrator of your retirement plan or insurance policy provider.

  2. Complete the form, naming EcoLogic as a beneficiary. You can designate us as the primary beneficiary for a percentage or specific amount. You can also make us the contingent beneficiary so that we will receive the balance of your plan or policy only if your primary beneficiary doesn’t survive you.

  3. Please, let us know when you have completed & submitted the form so we may recognize you.
