Closing a Chapter: More Than 30 Years of Community-Led Conservation

After more than three decades of work alongside rural and Indigenous communities across Central America and Mexico, EcoLogic Development Fund has made the difficult decision to conclude operations.
Over the past several months, the Board and leadership team evaluated multiple options to sustain the organization. Despite these efforts, it became clear that continuing operations was no longer financially viable. The Board determined that an orderly wind-down is the most responsible path forward.
This outcome was largely driven by a decline in unrestricted funding, which underpinned operational continuity and program delivery, ultimately constraining our ability to cover core organizational costs.
This decision was not made lightly. It reflects a careful and deliberate process, guided by a commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship.
While this moment is difficult, we are proud of what EcoLogic has accomplished over more than three decades. Together with communities and partners, we helped restore forests, strengthen local governance, and support sustainable livelihoods across Central America and Mexico.
EcoLogic has always been about partnership.
We are deeply grateful to our extraordinary regional teams, whose knowledge, humility, and persistence made this work possible.
We also extend our appreciation to our long-standing community partners and local institutions, whose leadership ensured that this work was truly community-led.
To our donors and institutional partners, who believed in local solutions and made this work possible.
To the community members, youth leaders, women’s groups, forest guardians, and farmers, who trusted us to work alongside them.
To our Board of Directors, past and present, for their stewardship and care.
This legacy belongs to all of you.
Thank you for believing in this work. Thank you for investing in communities and ecosystems that too often go unseen. Thank you for walking with us.
