Empowering Communities at Nature for Life Hub 2024: A Recap of EcoLogic Development Fund's Participation

EcoLogic Development Fund recently participated in the Nature for Life Hub 2024, held from September 30 to October 3, 2024. This dynamic online event brought together stakeholders dedicated to creating a nature-positive future, fostering dialogue, and igniting action toward environmental sustainability.

During our presentation, Marco Acevedo, our Mexico program officer, showcased our ongoing forest conservation projects in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. These initiatives harness cutting-edge technology and innovative drone applications to monitor deforestation and support sustainable practices. Joining us in this engaging discussion were representatives from Global Forest Watch, AJESH, and Observatorio de Bosques de Antioquia, who shared their unique perspectives and complementary approaches to conservation. While our previous project funded by Global Forest Watch has concluded, the insights gained from that experience continue to shape our current efforts in the region.

Marco emphasized how our earlier project laid the groundwork for a deforestation alert system that empowered local communities to identify critical areas at risk. By integrating satellite technology and the Forest Watcher application, community brigades were equipped to receive timely alerts about deforestation activities. This proactive approach enables them to schedule patrols more efficiently and respond swiftly to emerging threats, making a tangible impact on forest conservation efforts.

The event highlighted the importance of merging technology with traditional knowledge, opening new avenues for communities to safeguard their natural resources. It was inspiring to witness the collaborative spirit of the Nature for Life Hub, which reinforced our commitment to ensuring that local voices remain at the forefront of conservation strategies.

This marks our second consecutive participation in the Nature for Life Hub, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Nature for Life Hub for this invaluable opportunity and to all who participated in the event!
