SATIIM collaborates with the indigenous communities of Southern Belize to protect and sustainably manage the 41,855 acres of wetlands and mangrove forests of the Sarstoon Temash National Park. Founder and former Executive Director Gregory Ch’oc, a collaborator with EcoLogic since 1997, has served on EcoLogic’s Board of Directors since 2010.
A local partner organization is usually a local nonprofit or governance body that is community-based and managed by local people. We work side-by-side with these organizations to conduct programs and activities that provide technical assistance, resources, and know-how to the people who live in the area. EcoLogic collaborates with at least one local partner at each of our project sites. In some cases, we have worked directly with communities to help them establish legally recognized organizations where none have existed before.
Our strategic partners are often international-, national-, or regional-level organizations usually with particular areas of specialization that complement our own. We collaborate synergistically with these groups to implement activities and solutions alongside our local partners.
